On January 13, 2010 Harbor Homes™ received a phone call from the U.S. State Department requesting we immediately get involved in the Haitian earthquake crisis. As a longtime supplier to DHS/FEMA, with expertise in residential and commercial development for U.S. disaster locations, supplying housing, operations support, and even installing entire cities, we were able to respond immediately in the relief efforts. Previously, Harbor Homes™ created products for retail use and for FEMA through the government procurement process. It became apparent to all involved that the NGOs, the various countries coming to the aid of Haitians, and the U.S. companies involved could not handle this crisis alone. A far greater effort than ever experienced was required, and Harbor Homes™ has played its role in meeting the immediate needs with our affordable PermaShelter buildings. Once we were working on the ground in Haiti more disasters hit, Turkey, Chile, and Pacific Islands had earthquakes, and more needs emerged. As a result, our company has formed a permanent disaster response team to work in conjunction with governments, relief agencies and churches to best merge ourselves into their efforts, and supply their needs for housing, medical facilities, schoolhouses, wastewater treatment, food kitchens, latrines and other support. With newly expanded operations we are able to respond not only to U.S. emergencies, but also other emergency needs for housing and other buildings around the globe. As a participant in the upcoming Haitian Expo to build back a better Haiti, we are poised to demonstrate the depth and capabilities of our company, and our commitment to helping provide housing to the world’s crisis.
