PermaShelter S.A. Now Accepting Orders

Harbor Homes™ is pleased to announce that it has given its newest subsidiary, PermaShelter S.A, with offices in the Gressier region just west of Port au Prince, approval to begin processing permanent, temporary and transitional housing bulk orders in Haiti to help with the earthquake disaster. The November launch date of the Haitian-based factory to produce housing, offices, schools, medical clinics, and support units is on target. Harbor Homes expects to begin hiring management team members and skilled workers through our Haitian management representatives.

The PermaShelter factory is taking orders immediately for hurricane and seismic engineered transitional, temporary and PermaShelter™ structures in both wood frame versions and steel frame for distribution throughout the nation. Units may be sided with impenetrable steel, wood or cement board as desired. The U.S. headquarters will serve as a backup production facility for the Haitian operation while the raw materials flow continues in anticipation of the grand opening. The local economy will benefit as more good paying jobs are created for skilled workers, and intensive training opportunities are offered to unskilled workers.

With over 100 years combined manufacturing experience, the management team for Harbor Homes has applied its knowledge to produce outstanding homes, a proprietary earth-anchoring system and can expedite customs clearance for more rapid deployment in a natural disaster emergency.

Harbor Homes is already producing transitional shelters and is providing product to various clients in Haiti. As a major FEMA contractor in the U.S., Harbor Homes produced thousands of full featured homes after hurricane Katrina for the Gulf Coast region, and is currently under contract to the Department of Homeland Security to produce tens of thousands more units in the United States. With metal forming equipment and direct from mill pricing Harbor Homes is able to maintain guaranteed pricing for all NGOs, governments, and mission groups.

As an exhibitor in the Build Back a Better Haiti Expo to be held in October 2010, Harbor Homes looks forward to impressing the select jurists with their expertise in manufacturing, materials analysis, design, collaboration with Haitian companies, training, logistics and installation. Having completed the webinar with the Haitian government and its representatives, Harbor Homes is proceeding with plans to manufacture in Haiti in the weeks and months leading up to a government decision over supplying mass quantities of prefabricated homes to the population of displaced persons due to the Haitian earthquake.

By working in Haiti for the past several months on the issues of rapid deployment and installation of emergency housing units, Harbor Homes has created an expedited process by which NGOs, the government, churches, and missions can all benefit.

PermaShelter homes not only meet the basic need for shelter, but also can be made ADA compliant for Haiti’s handicapped population. The field tested steel structure, panelized homes provide greater security, protection from the elements being hurricane and earthquake resistant, protection against vermin, pests and disease than previously known to lower income residents. This common sense approach to inherently solving medical and other issues through the design of the PermaShelter homes will place Harbor Homes in good stead to supply tens of thousands of units as the process moves forward.

Lucas Stewart, CEO of Harbor Homes stated, “With several hundred thousand Haitians in immediate need of stable housing, the Harbor Homes solution is just one more step towards realizing a goal of building back a better Haiti, quicker. We are excited to lend our expertise to solve the Haitian housing crisis, by not only producing necessary temporary and long-term housing, but also by training and developing business leaders for Haiti’s future economic growth.”

Harbor Homes is supplying industry, building villages and rebuilding lives.
