$153 Million Contract for Harbor Homes Emergency Housing

Harbor Homes disaster recovery supply division announced that it has been named one of four contractors nationwide to fulfill contracts for disaster related housing for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The travel trailers will include a two-bedroom model with a kitchen, living room/dining room space, private bath, two bedrooms and storage as well as a Uniform Federal Accessibility Standard (UFAS) version for families with a disabled person.

As a leader in low-emission homes, Harbor Homes has been awarded a $153 million contract as its portion of the national recovery purchasing taking place for stocking deployment yards around the nation. FEMA standards require all manufacturers to meet strict, independently audited emissions ratings for indoor air quality. Harbor Homes has achieved an even lower than accepted level of 16 parts per billion for formaldehyde with a reduced reading of two parts per billion. Harbor Homes has also earned better testing levels for volatile organic compounds and other chemical emissions.

By adhering to air quality criteria established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, as well as national building councils, Harbor Homes has met or exceeded all requirements for structural components, flooring, walls, insulation, adhesives, furniture, cabinetry, fixtures, hardware and all other items that are an integral part of each home.

The contract calls for a long-term relationship and an indeterminate number of temporary emergency housing units to be produced annually over the next five years. Initial production will consist of several thousand homes to be delivered to holding areas in the Gulf Coast and Eastern United States regions.
